Beware the spending merchants Sunday, May 21, 2006
Harold J. Wolfe Metrowest Daily News
The town of Framingham has become infested with merchants of spending. They are on our Board of Selectman, our Finance Committee and dominate our School Committee.

The Merchants of Spending in Framingham don't care where the money comes from and seem unconcerned about the underlying details of why not enough money is available and sincerely believe that more money is the only solution to solve all our problems.

The Merchants of Spending will tell you that we must spend millions more to "level" fund all existing programs no matter how wasteful, and costs that they cannot control.  They will gleefully provide you with gloom and doom scenarios if you the taxpayer do not agree with them.

The Merchants of Spending on Framingham's School Committee do not seem to be facing any moral or ethical dilemmas in spending the taxpayers money as they relentlessly push for more money "for the children" and to feed the greed of the Framingham Teachers Association.  Next year, they would like you to pay for a eye-opening, greedy, price-gouging, budget-busting seven percent across the board pay hike.

Beware of the Merchants of Spending.  Don't believe them when they tell you that there is no alternative but to increase our taxes.  Force them to live within their means as we have to, and let us keep our hard-earned money for better purposes.  Let these Merchants know that their spending policies are out of touch with what we the people are willing to tolerate.
