It's only been two years, but our socialist town manager since 1999,
George P. King Jr., has once again suggested another large override to
inflict pain and suffering within the ranks of Framingham taxpayers.
We still have about 16 years to go to pay off the 2000 $59.2 million capital override for the high school. The state pays 90 percent of that, but it's still our money. The town would like us to believe it is FREE money. The $7.5 million 2002 operational override will increase by 2.5 percent each year and all taxpayers will pay for that forever and beyond. This year (fiscal 2005) we will pay $7.9 million. During the next 20 years, this one will cost us about $200 million. Now we are faced with the 2005 $90 million capital override, expected to cost each household about $220, according to my calculations at www.no-more-overrides.org. The total cost at 5 percent interest for 20 years is about $142 million. A mere $19,500 per day every day for 20 years. The primary beneficiaries of this proposed override will be the public sector employees of the town and schools. After the money is spent, most town residents will be hard pressed to find any changes in their life. Those most hurt by this override will be seniors on limited income. They will pay till their death. There are no necessities in this proposed override required to conduct the business of the town government. Most of the requests will allow the town government to metastasize like cancer, requiring a future operational override. The Board of Selectman has taken a strong stance with their welcoming proclamation, to encourage illegal aliens into Framingham and now wants to stick us with the bill for this really, REALLY bad governmental policy. While the purpose of government is to help its citizens lead their productive lives, Mr. King's purposes elude me completely. I merely see greed. Allow us to live our lives without constant tax hikes. It is simply not possible to be taxed into prosperity. Many have tried, none have succeeded. I urge the Framingham taxpayers to just say NO! |
