Dear Framingham Taxpayer
If you have been reading the newspapers lately, you have no doubt noticed that our Town Manager, George P. King, Jr. has proposed a $90 million Proposition 2 1/2 Capital Override to be placed on the ballot for a townwide election in April, 2005. If it passes, the average single family tax bill will additionally increase $186 above and beyond the 2002 Operational Override, not the to mention the 2000 High School debt exclusion Override. This is the first capital override proposed to partially satisfy the needs of our Director of Public Works, Peter Sellers who tells us that we will need $500 million to "repair" our infrastructure. If this $90 million capital Override is placed on the ballot and it passes, our Board of Selectman will have increased taxes by 15% in a mere three years, not to mention our recent water and sewer rates increase.
It is our intention to slow down the continuing demand by the town for more money to solve its financial management problems. We believe that the Town should be forced to live within its means like the average family does. In times of recession, we would also expect it to tighten its belt, like many small businesses must do to balance their books. We are launching a campaign to defeat The Immense Override of 2005 with the creation of a Keep Framingham Affordable committee. We have put together an aggressive plan which will require raising $10,000 to pay for signs, bumper stickers, mailings and brochure distribution. This may seem like a lot of money, but it is simply a one-time investment of $10 thousand to save $6.03 million in your tax dollars, not just next year, but each and every year after that for 25 years. A permanent web site has been set up to fight this override and future overrides at: http://www.no-more-overrides.org To help us reach our goals, we ask if you can donate $100 to this effort. The $100 you send now may save you $186 each year for 25 years. If you are unable to donate this amount, please send us $75, $50 or even $25. We are cognizant of the poor economy and simply ask that you help us according to your means. The defeat of this $90 million override will save the taxpayers of Framingham $16,526 a day every day for 25 years. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to assist our efforts.
